I'm on disc 5, half way through "The Gold-Bug."

There are a lot of references to Goethe's Faust, of which I've only read excerpts.

I skipped to disc 4 because I wanted to hear "Ligeia."

Renfield has bit the dust, and Van Helsing is leading everyone on a hunt to destroy Dracula.

I'm on disc 2. Basil Rathbone has a wonderful voice. He's also the definitive Sherlock Holmes -- in my humble opinion.

Almost to hour 11.

Next up after We Have Always Lived in the Castle

The dress code for the devil's ball is white tie for men and evening shoes for women.

Part II is much faster paced. Satan's ball has just begun, and guests are arriving from Hell.

I'm up to hour 9.

I'm on disc 2. Merricat is a psychopath. Ha.

Margarita and her maid have become witches, and Margarita has agreed to host the Devil's annual ball.

I think I would have had to have had personal first-hand experience with the Soviet Union to appreciate how the Devil is gallivanting through Moscow punishing low-level bureaucrats for petty corruption and ordinary citizens for their complicity in the regime.

I'm on disc 4. The townspeople suspect the old Quaker widow of witchcraft. Those wacky Puritans!

I'm on disc 2.

I'm on disc 8. This is my first foray into the zombie genre. It's been an interesting read, but I can't say that I care for zombies. They're too unsophisticated an opponent -- like super-bacteria with teeth. Vampires at least have some sort of a personality even if it’s nothing more than a conglomeration of total hackneyed clichés.

I can see why teenagers really like this book. The heroine is not only in a world threatened by zombies, but none of the adults understand that they need to respect and validate her every "choice." She, naturally, doesn't have respect any of the decisions made by grown-ups because that's tyranny limiting her own choices. She's also mad that adults only reveal classified information on a need to know basis.
