I'm not sure if there's a name for the particular trope where the entire continued unfolding of the plot is only possible if one or more of the characters commits an act of the most utter mind-numbing stupidity that you can't quite believe it but this book just did it.

I'm enjoying this so far but bloody hell, am I getting irritated by all I'd Samantha's annoying quotes at the start of each chapter. Maybe don't litter your science fiction book with quotes belittling hard physical science (which isn't a matter of belief) and instead try to push some nebulous pseuso-spiritual bullshit..

*deep breath*

I feel better now.

Second time's the charm; I'm really enjoying this book this time around. Considering the sequence I've just read I'm not sure that Amazon know what the hell they're letting themselves in for by turning this into a TV series. I think it's going to cost ALL the money.

Right. I have decided I'm going skip Babylon's Ashes (because it is abysmal and has terrible, terrible POV characters) and move straight on to Persepolis Rising (which is supposed to be very good). Will this be confusing? Probably, but Nemesis Games was so good I want to continue with The Expanse in general. And, hey, maybe all the awful people will be dead by then! :)

Steve Wasling is starting Dune: The Gateway Collection (Dune Chronicles #1-6)
So that's Dune 2 (Depressed Messiah of Dune) and Dune 3 (Honey I'm Possessed by a Harkonnen) down and....I'm going to take a break before I try and slog my way through Dune 4 (Diary of a 3000 year old Teenage Sandworm) and the rest.

First book finished - Appreciated it much more this time and I'd completely forgotten that certain scenes (like the journey from Caladan to Arrakis aboard the Guild Heighliner) were skipped over in the book and were an invention of the Lynch/DeLaurentis film and then used again in the mini-series.

I remember the rest of the books were increasingly a struggle to finish so we'll have to see!

Okay, maybe I should have started by re-reading the series. I have next to no idea who anyone is or what's been happening!
