The door swings open: O god of hinges, god of long voyages, you have kept faith. It’s dark in there. You confide yourself to the darkness. You step in. The door swings closed.

Unfortunately this too didn't really reach me? I've been moved by Margaret Atwood's prose, but the poetry felt somehow distant to me. I'm trying to make an effort to read more poetry to like it better, but I'm not sure it's working for me.

What I do: I see in darkness. I see darkness. I see you.

Anyway, my dearest one, we still have the moon.

Maybe I'm unkind, but the author's experiences were far from mine. This is not necessarily a bad thing, but the book was superficial and both failed to capture my interest or even my empathy. I ended up reading this quickly because it didn't speak to me. This was almost too blunt for me to be honest.

I have a feeling this isn't for me - some interesting thoughts, but no rhythm or imagery or emotion to really capture me. I'd also hoped for a bit more of a nature angle and so far that is superficial at best. I'm not hating it but it's also not reaching me.

Very interesting, I did miss some pictures here and there so I had Google a lot while reading, but very fascinating (even if it felt like a roll-call sometimes)

Much to think about

Longisquama my beloved

There was so much happening in this book and so few pages for it to happen in. That made it harder to read for me to be honest, because it feels like none of the elements got the screentime they deserved. Definitely interesting ideas, and I loved the elements of Norse mythology that were used in the book.

Shook me. I'm not normally one for poetry, but this convinced me I need to read more
