the tension between apostolorum apostola v the repentant whore, legitimizing her by silencing her: what does this say to women? about women? how does the magdalene of women differ from the magdalene of men?

schaberg starts at the end and goes backward-- the first chapter is almost more of an introduction to modern feminism and female spirituality through the lens of the writings of virginia woolf. it's interesting, but i must say i don't quite see yet how she's connecting this to magdalene specifically.

How to recognize a witch, according to Vidal's informants:
-only does her laundry at night
-wears a very large headscarf (her power is in her hair, so she keeps it covered to protect it)
-smells weird (like "rotten leather" according to one person)
-incapable of eating coconuts
-uses her left hand for everything (to protect herself from curses)
-breaks into peoples' houses to count their grain????

relatable tbh
