Science would save them. Of course. And they had all clung to that notion, faith as blind as that of the religious zealots. There would be a cure, or a vaccine, and humanity could get back to the normal business of consumption, war and destruction, carelessly fucking up the planet, for future generations, while the rich took off to space on day trips and the poor begged for food. Normal.
