calling this a dnf - thank you to the publishers for the arc nonetheless

the descriptions of black characters are really jarring, the choice of language felt incredibly uncomfortable, and I found that hard to move on from

whether it's 'historically accurate' or otherwise, I feel there were probably a dozen other ways one could describe these characters and that choice wasn't made

I have absolutely no idea where this is going?? this is reading like the bits I didn’t enjoy in Normal People (but like, the whole book)
