This Mr O'Realy - is that bad spelling (Mr O'Reilly) or a bad joke (Mr Oh really)?. It's good to see Hungarian education accurately celebrated - "Még négy kérdést kapott, mind a négyet lepuszkázta a segítségemmel. És ötösre felelt!

"By 1945, the Bolsheviks had also developed a theory of civil society...They dismissed the 'bourgeois' notion of open discussion, and hated independent associations, trade unions, guilds of all kinds, which they referred to as 'separatist' or 'caste' divisions within society. ... Everything was political. And if it was not openly political, then it was secretly political" pg 161

Cynical or mindless (not sure which) use of educational jargon; "using the kinaesthetic and interpersonal intelligences" turns out to mean wandering around the classroom trying find the personal whose 'definition' matches your 'word'.

"Theoretically, in 1946 Hungary was ... a democracy. ... But the Hungarian Communist party controlled the security organs ... Through the selective use of terror, the could send clear messages to their opponents, and the general public, about what kinds of behaviour and what kinds of people were no longer acceptable to the new regime."

"A [informatka]teremben körben vannak az asztolok, így egymás melett ülunk, háttal a tanárnak, aki így rálát a monitorkra." Good idea! In the IT room the tables were in a circle, and we sat next to each other with our backs to the teacher who could see what was on the monitors.

Just to make sure I don't overestimate my progress there was a quotation from a psycology manual at the bottom of page 60. I recognised 25% of the words, so I skipped it and went back to the teeny-talk where I recognised about 95% of the words.

"Indeed those who hold wealth and office and power are thought to stand in special need of friends; for what is the use of such prosperity to them if they are denied the opportunity for beneficence, which is most commonly and commendably directed towards friends" Office? Commendably?

The original pland of 3 pages a day is down to 1 page every other day. I've had to limit myself to looking up only three words a page, which I promptly forget so I've taken to writing them above the text - Anna doesn't know about this yet, but I can smell trouble brewing. I'm confident that I learnt one word 'raádasul' - no still can't spell it 'ráadásul'.
