Despite the odd parallels with my life at this current time, the story just is not catching me still. It might be due to the fact that the story is still just about to begin somehow.

This book is oddly captivating despite the fact that the way it is told is sort of bland and not exciting, and especially due to the fact the story has not even begun. I think it should really start in the next chapter, but all of this that I’ve read so far is kinda just preamble. I hope it gets really interesting soon!

I love Randall Flagg and how he is such an interesting take on the “Mysterious Stranger” archetype created (from my knowledge) by Mark Twain. But honestly every single character is so well detail and complex, even some that are barely even featured all that much. Even better, in my humble opinion, is king’s prose. It’s so good, and I am not certain how/why, but I will try my best to FULLY find out why!

I’ve been reading so much of this recently, more than any book I’ve read for fun in recent memory. There’s a few books where I genuinely like to use very specific voices for, like for The Hobbit, Winnie the Pooh, and especially for Alice in Wonderland. But whenever I read any part with Randall Flagg, I can’t help but imagine such a vividly sinister voice, since the character is so fascinating.

I really like this build up of these “low lifes” of people who really do not mean that much in the world they live in, and are rather typical in nature. Put these layered characters with an impending doom of a disastrous flu virus, and I really like how Stephen King has been depicting everyday life with an end goal purpose.
Also, I like when he describes characters’ backgrounds, they are in essence, thoughts.
