So far not loving it. Not “disliking” it either per se — but hoping I’m proven wrong by the end and end up enjoying ! A fan of this writer in general though.

Attempting this again. Incredibly rich and stunning prose. Let’s see if I finish it this time.

Knausgaard not doing autofiction. Reads and moves quickly.

Small break from this, to read a couple shorter books. Excited to dive back in.

This book continues to surprise me with its gorgeous and playful prose. Playful in the way Paul McCartney is with music ; but stylistic in a way that I associate with “heavier” stuff (John Lennon?). Online it seems his other novels are more well loved ; so I’m definitely happy to befriend this novel as a first step :)

Still not very far in. Some beautiful passages about time.

Finally starting this monster of a book, despite my fear of long novels. Seems like a good time to burrow into something like this. Not too far in, but can already see it start to sink itself into me.

DNF'ing it. Quite good but not in the mood to do another 200 pages of this, especially right now. Decent chance I'll return to it though.

Really loving this so far. Kind of started reading it on a whim. I don't know much about this writer, but this is quite good. On the second story now ... This will be my secondary book -- not primary -- primary book is Magic Mountain !

Skipped book three based on advice from a friend. So far this book doesn’t come close to books 1 & 2. A little disappointing but he’s such an excellent writer that I feel like I’ll likely finish it anyway rather than put it aside. And it moves quickly.

I want to say, without opening a can of worms, that I can’t stand the title, particularly right now with the rise of the hard right and antisemitism.

All the other books I’m juggling are quickly receding to the back burner as I become more and more infatuated with this novel. If the prose quality stays the same, this could easily fall into my top 3 favorite reads of 2024.

There’s a solid chance I’ll DNF this novel — I loved the first 100 pages of so, but it’s getting a bit repetitive to me, not nearly as mind shattering as Melancholy … , and I wonder if I should’ve picked up Satantango instead. However , I bet I’ll finish it and rate it 5 stars lol.

I’ve started a practice of not putting my current reads in here; since I abandon so many. But I’m spending so much of my reading time with this and another novel that I feel like logging them. To me, Pamuk is most enjoyable when he plays with genre (like Snow, My Name is Red, or his Borgesian Black Book). This is less Borges and more his version of Proust — still very readable & rich, even if not my preferred.

Should finish this soon. A very disturbing reading experience to me, so I’m not speeding through it. Loved Go Went Gone. Full review soon.

Not sure if I’ll finish this, as most reviews say it’s one of Pamuks lesser works — but I received a free copy — and so far; the writing is rich and intoxicating as always with him. But I have to say, I *loved* three of his books and merely *liked* a newer one of his. And only liking Pamuk is a disappointing experience, so I might pivot to a more classic one of his.

Slowly reading this in the background of other books ; and am constantly amazed at how rich and deep the prose is. I like it even more than volume 1 , which I loved. I’ll prioritize it soon.

Re reading this novel, which is an exciting way for me to start the new year :)
I even got much of my family involved — my brother, sister, and dad — all of whom have never read it. Excited to hear what they think.
