Finished The Chaser, sadly unloggable on its own on here but I thought it was brilliant. Don’t fully know how to describe how impressive I find Peters’ ability to convey complicated and uncomfortable feelings and interactions.

I feel like I keep saying this but it’s crazy how well observed these stories are. Everyone is real. This one’s depiction of a very awkward time feels so familiar even though it’s not actually my own, it’s that of people I love and know, like I know Cay now

Performance
Loved. Zhou’s ability to make you immediately know these characters, even the peripheral ones, is incredible. Lived with them for 30 pages but it felt like 200.

Affection:
Loved. Horny, intimate, knowing, bleeding with desire. What is it to want and be wanted, to be ashamed of it, perhaps even of yourself, and be surprised by it.

Is this book a bit insufferable? We shall see.

this is really hard to read so far, jesus christ

Obviously very early in the book, but just wanted to get some quick thoughts out instead of writing them in the back of my book. So far this feels intensely mean spirited in a way that is toward others but also fueled by self-hatred. Honestly unsure what to fully make of it so far, but it’s written well! Wish there were some love to it but maybe that’s another book
