Might be a minority in saying this is a step above the Shadow Rises. The pace of this book is refreshingly quick. I like how Robert Jordan stays with a group of characters longer, before moving away. While I am missing Perrin, each of the groups have an interesting tale to tell, and hints of Perrin told through dreams provide us enough to know that he is going to come back with a vengeance.

Each chapter leaves me hungry for more, asking more questions than I’ve been given answers for. The storytelling feels insanely contemporary, with emotions feeling colourful and well realised.

Dark, foreboding and grisly are the words I would use to describe Wuthering Heights, both the titular house and the book itself.

I’m not sure if I’ve been slow reading this book because it drags, or it has felt like it has dragged because of me being slow reading it.
This book takes a different approach to the first two, splitting the narrative between 3 POV’s for the most part I have really enjoyed the perspectives. Mat in particular has really shined in the latter half (when he awoke). Looking forward to see the threads weave in Tear.

Spent a few days not reading, or reading one or two chapters in a day. A lot of time spent in Tar Valon with the Girls, and Mat. I really do wander if Harry Potter was some what inspired by the Tar Valon shenanigans…
While the pacing and structure is different to what I had become used to from the previous 2 books, I have thoroughly enjoyed what I have read. It is clear now though, that all roads lead to Tear.

It has been refreshing to spend so much time within Perrin’s perspective. Here we finally explore his inner wolf, and the nature of his dreams. While the plot is definitely slow, it is for the benefit of some sourly needed character development for our favourite blacksmith.
Was not such fan of the first ~50 pages but it’s getting better!

Once again, a slow, simmering introduction to the book - reminding us of the characters and their location. The whitecloak prologue may have been the weakest thus far but was still an interesting look into that organisation in the aftermath of the Great Hunt. Comparing Rand in the beginning of this book, to his intro in the previous books, it is incredible to see how far he has come in the year or so.

RJ once again subverts the expectations of this book - instead making a retrieval quest. He also is not afraid to be constantly throwing in new world building elements - portal stones. I am constantly amazed by how the story and the world is building. Rand is becoming more confident in his channelling, mirroring Eqwene and Nyneaves education on their way to Tar Valon. I’m enjoying it lots.

It is very refreshing to stay in the same location for such a long time. The POV’s are fascinating, giving a much grander view of the world than we ever got in the previous novel. Very excited to find out how the rest of the novel is going to progress from here.

Very little to say so far. The prologue was a great side of the world that we never saw in Eye of the World. Unsure where in the chronology it may, and what mysteries may be uncovered. I loved finally hearing a little more about the Heron marked blade, and the desperation of Rand to finally leave upon the Aes Sedai coming to the city starts to set up how the opening act will go. Excited to read more.

Coming up to the home stretch of this novel. The characters are back together, and the web has woven more characters who I’m sure will play an important role in the series. Still unsure how it will all play out in the long run but I’m excited to find out. A great great introduction to what I think will be a fantastic series.

What a segment! Between Perrin’s capture by the Whitecloaks, and Rand and Mat’s odyssey across Caemlyn road, RJ continues to flex his writing prowess, by projecting the emotions and mental state of our characters onto the reader. Some very clever non linear story telling.

Already some great twists in characterisation. Perrin in particular has quickly become a favourite, with his ability to communicate with wolves. The dread between the three parties is intensifying - will they ever find each other again?
