Ok, so, Gwynne just said, “there were no criminal penalties in the Republic of Texas for murdering Redskins.” SO, THAT MUST MEAN THIS ENTIRE TIME HE HAS USED LANGUAGE TO REPRESENT THE PEOPLE OF THAT TIME. A lot of my criticism for this book flies out the window w that but I’ve gotta say, why tf didn’t he say this before????

And now we are back at a part I agree with. Gwynne criticizes the Texas for being “brave” by attacking the relatively peaceful Indians in the East. Only to ignore the real threat in the west.

So much of this book is problematic and borderline racist. “The excuse for getting rid of them (Cherokees) and we a trumped-up charge that they were part of a Mexican-backed plot to drive the whites from Texas. It was almost certainly false.” HOW TF DO YOU EVEN GIVE AN INCH OF CREDIBILITY TO THIS?? “Almost certainly” is used and not “this was obviously not the case” HOW DO YOU NOT JUST SAY IT WAS DUMB??
