will not b reading anything remotely serious or sad until september. hit me with the silly stuff

i think it is so bold to choose to write a novel about art/artists because you both have to make the story and the writing and the characters good and also make their art good, or at least have interesting ideas about art. and man respect to rachel kushner for really just going for it

persuasion ☑️: just fine. i did not have a lot of patience for anne. some good agonizing romance wasted on her and captain colonizer

northanger abbey! very funny, jane! the catch 22 of austen novels. fast paced and quippy and frustrating and then suddenly heartfelt in a weird way?? catherine is the dumb girl representation I crave in literature ❤️a genuine delight

i am learning so much already! fingers crossed for retention

back from my austen hiatus with emma. my favorite chapter is when emma basically explains all the petty reasons she doesn't like jane fairfax and then is like whoa ok she's actually really pretty now and makes a Big Decision to Like her. but then they talk one time and jane is not spilling any hot goss which is unforgivable so emma in fact continues to dislike her. very good rainy day reading.

mansfield park! bold of jane to write a novel with no likable characters. kinda works though, lots of twisted relationships in this one that I think make it arguably more interesting than my austen faves. nothing about this a nice love story & I don’t think plot manipulation would change that, but if I were in charge the characters would be paired off differently at the end.

p&p, baby! this was my favorite book in high school, the first time i finished it i flipped right back to the beginning and started over. holds up! very thoughtful and funny and sweet and special to me :) mr bingley is the himbo blueprint.

sense & sensibility check ☑️ kind of like watching the bachelor or listening to your high school bud updating you on a semester's worth of tinder debacles over a winter break coffee date - the drama is entertaining but you're a little too detached from the situation to care deeply. elinor is an all-star league gossip, absolutely elite, all respect to her and marianne is a scorpio.
