"They all talked at once, their voices insistent and contradictory and impatient, making of unreality a possibility, then a probability, then an incontrovertible fact, as people will when their desires become words."

I believe that Joyce has done exactly within him with the 3rd chapter. I feel as though I must attend mass this Sunday and repent to the trinity. Hell is a scary place and Stephen remembered every word of the sermon so well and vividly. His confession can only last so long.

Stephen has become a bit of a drag. Though the portrayal of a young, depressed, confused boy is accurate, I wish that I could tell him not to hate his family. Not to think of himself smarter than elders. To learn how to use money as his father is of no use. My man did get some pussy though so maybe he will chill out. Likely not.

“It’s a great advantage not to drink among hard drinking people. You can hold your tongue, and, moreover, you can time any little irregularity of your own so that everybody else is so blind that they don’t see or care.”

Joyce sure was a rambling throughout his head as a child. Always thinking about anything or nothing.

For Esme is undoubtedly one of the best in here so far. The writing of dialogue between X and Esme shows how inside himself X was at the time of meeting. A man who never speaks much met someone whom he admires. The age thing is a bit weird, though I guess my grandfather was in the Navy at 15.

War with the Eskimos is weird. The 2 men are both characters in their own right that I’d like to see develop more. Also what’s with the wastebasket? Lots of stuff in there I want to explore but just the right amount is given to where it’s still mysterious enough to not be underwhelming.

I enjoy how every story (so far) is nothing more than a snapshot. A scene of normal life. Something that could most definitely happen. And they end right when they should. Though I guess that’s arguable to say about the first story.

Well it’s no question that Jack understands the gravity of drunkenness or maybe he doesn’t. Soon he’s bound to tear down the wall and either smarten up or not. Maybe it’s smart either way.

Very natural. Kerouac seems to be searching for the mysticism of experience and possibly something to answer him about it.

Not holding my attention. She’s dead. He wants to have sex with his mom, I get it.
