I think the thing Hitchens is arguing most persuasively is the existence of a deep state.

The East Timor chapter has been weakly argued thus far. I got a totally different read from the source material, and Hitchens insights read tediously.

So much narrative opinion and speculation that, it must be this way, that I’ve become distrustful. I don’t believe Kissinger is a saint, but there are triggers left and right for speculation.

I agree see that Kissinger weakened the cause of international Democracy and could probably be tried successfully in an unbiased tribunal for war crimes. My persistent questions that haven’t been answered are, what if he didn’t do it? What would be the consequences of communism taking hold in these spots throughout the world? It’s a predicament choosing between the two, and then to knowingly prefer atrocity.
