This one might be getting DNF’ed too. It feels bloated.

To be fair, it ended up being just one character who went by a new name because the author is capable of organically creating tension. My bad!

Also added to the list of things I hated:
-the b story of the creepy property owner that went nowhere

“Poured over” when it should be “pored over.” This is a straight up hate-read at this point. Possibly the worst book I’ve read.

Oh I also hate the trope where a book tries to keep you in suspense by changing a character’s name so you don’t know that Past Character X is the same person as Present Character Y and this book appears to be doing that at least twice. Twice! Ughhhhh

So far in this book I’ve liked:

-the scene on page 176 where a protagonist sees a spooky figure in the dark. Genuinely kind of scary and moody! Great scene!

So far in this book I’ve hated:
-the dumb, obvious epigraphs
-weird grammatical errors that took me out of the immersion as I wondered if they were intentional
-every character
-all dialogue
-all other scenes
-the writing

I mean, there’s a baking rat named Mister Thimble. Come onnnnn
