I sat down and read about a hundred pages of this one go at work. What brilliant characterization, sleazy realism and witty dialogue. This is one of the freshest voices I've come across in a long time. A brutal and cynical crime-drama meets dark comedy. Serious page turner.

Weaves a narrative yarn like nothing else this side of Dr. Thompson.

"Suddenly a pair of strong hands grabbed him by his eighty dollar vintage Joan Jett t-shirt and hauled him to his feet. Tyler was staring into a mouth full of yellow, ground-down teeth."

Ferocious, hilarious, convincingly gritty

When I visit the library, I like to seize on the generosity of its system by occasionally grabbing a novel at random. Something about this one seemed familiar to me when I spotted it. With no film adaptation or critical reputation that I know of beyond an endorsement from L.A. guitar legend Slash on the cover, I would consider this a very lucky discovery.
