this writing style is far too juvenile for an adult novel. these characters feel like petulant children when one is supposed to be 26 and the other over a hundred 😵‍💫 it’s been a slog to get through so far, i don’t have the highest hopes.

so we’ve gone from the setup for a marchion-bell-burryaga fight to an EMBER POV (!!!) where she calls burryaga tall friend and bell HOME FRIEND 🥹 to events happening that make it just bell and marchion dueling, with marchion using loden’s lightsaber for said duel. this is fucking cinema oh my GODDDDDD

i’ve never had a more horrifying time reading than when padawans face off the nameless and lose their masters. not a worse experience out there. took WAYYYY too long for anyone to give poor amadeo a hug smh

also i’m personally not learning much new information?? this book was supposed to give solutions to the problem of the nameless and the blight but i already knew this personally, not much of this is new

porter’s fights with viess are so exhausting, it’s the same rehashing of “he slashes with his lightsaber, she blocks it with beskar, he gets the upper hand suddenly, she runs, she escapes.” i’m so DONE i could NOT care less

burry and bell are very clearly side characters in all this and i don’t like it. they were side characters in eye of darkness too, it’s clear the authors barely care about them anymore. i’m very upset by it, i feel like at the very least maybe move them towards the ya storyline with reath since that’s where they’re handling most of the nameless plot and they’ll be more relevant there

for a book in which i couldn’t care less about 3/4 of the mcs this is pretty good so far! of course, i haven’t read out of the shadows in maybe two years so i am very fuzzy on many details, but it’s very obvious how avon has matured and i appreciate it. still like vern lots too :) so far i’m interested!

the whole gang is miserable 😔 also not enough bell so far, he’s had very few chapters.

so far there is a lot of moving pieces in this book, which scares me a little. we’re picking up on storylines and characters left from convergence, path of deceit AND the battle of jedha. there is… a lot of people there. i feel like they’re going to be easy to lose track of

i’m not listening to the actual audio drama, just reading its script because i struggle with audiobooks so it’s not great because there’s no prose, it’s just dialogue, but important events happen here so we trudge on
