I realize it is really hard to write about social media in a non-cringe way, but I am an old person who is not on tiktok and even I know this author is egregiously bad at it. This just feels like bargain basement Daisy Jones and the Six.

I like this, the tragedy of it works. But I don't know that I love it, something feels muted. I don't know that I totally buy the connections between the characters.

The tone and the way this trades off between second and third person is so interesting.

I'm impressed at how well the two fairytales are combined and Luce got more likable when the author fleshed out her relationships with her sisters a little bit more. I was hoping for a little more regarding what happened with the ship wreck but I am definitely enjoying the read. Also, I really hope the dad is revealed to be a full on villain, that guy is a dick.

Charlotte is an asshole but her parents are so incredibly shitty to her.

It has definitely picked up! I am sticking with my original theory about Wylie. I just feel like the mom being held captive being Becky would be too easy. But maybe I'm wrong!

I am wondering if audio was perhaps the wrong call for this one. I am having a little trouble tracking all the characters. I get the past and present at the farmhouse but then there is the third mysterious timeline which appears to be a 'The Room' type situation, perhaps the main character's backstory?

She's a little too not-like-other-girls so far and I am not sure the world-building is quite working for me in terms of how magic/fae are integrated but I like the mystery that has been set up and how Luce's disability seems to be playing out.

I am still struggling to get through this. There are intriguing pieces but I feel like they aren't fleshed out enough to truly pull me into the story.

The plot is finally picking up, but what this book is really lacking is atmosphere. I was completely surprised when it turned out this book takes place near where I live, it may as well exist in a colorless void.

I wish this didn't keep flashing back to the 'present day', it feels unnecessary instead of telling the story in order.

I am really struggling with this one, it's pretty boring. In terms of it being a retelling, it feels like it could have been a short story or a novella.

It's fine so far, very YA, as expected. But it's no Raven Boys or Hollis Brown.

I like that the title has taken on multiple meanings. Why do I feel like it's the SIL in that video though?

This is a good hook! I like the way the story is unfolding. Not so sure about the roommates, it's starting to feel like slightly too many characters but not egregiously so just yet.

I am so bored

I think I would like this more if I hadn't read Bury Our Bones in the Midnight Soil first. It feels like she was trying out some ideas and this was the first draft.

This isn't grabbing me so far, though it has potential. I feel like it's because of the time jumps. It would be fine if it was just jumping between present and 10 years before but sometimes it's also jumping to a few days before and that is kind of annoying.

This feels very navel-gazey to me so far.

Now we are getting an email exchange? They keep talking about what great friends they are but where? who? when? I haven't seen it on the page.

The story should have gotten to the murderous family part sooner, the horror of the forced surgeries, drugging Evander, and him being a prisoner is the most interesting part. The rest continues to be repetitive.

I am glad this isn't the first book I am reading by this author. Don't Let the Forest In wasn't amazing but it was better than whatever this is.

These women have a pretty shitty friendship to begin with so it's kind of undercutting the premise that this one thing suddenly drives a wedge into their friendship. Like it seems like Jen is super self-centered and Riley just indulges that. I've been in friendships like that but not in adulthood, Riley should have dumped Jen a long time ago.

I want to like this book but it just feels like such a retread

I feel like Saint ended up with a worse life than Patch.

How are they matching blood an hair? Cops wouldn't have had DNA evidence by then. And this bank robbing thing is an...interesting...choice. How many scenes can we have of Saint pointing the finger, Nix telling her to give up, and then Saint being right? And the bad grammar persists!

That was unexpected so I see why this is a page turner. Still having the same problem with the writing which made the more action packed scenes difficult to follow. But I like that it's kind of unclear if Grace is real or not.

The writing is so flowery, it is sometimes difficult to understand who is talking or what exactly is going on. Like I actually love purple prose but nail the basics first.

Atmospheric but feels a little but of a repeat from Drews' last book: MC with mental health issues, drawn to a kid with the perfect old money aesthetic in a large creepy house, plus evil plants.

Finally got a little interesting after a body appeared. Though when you have a sister who can see ghosts and one who is a human lie detector, this should really be a quick solve. I will be impressed if this is a red herring but it seems pretty obvious that the mayor did it, that he also killed the great aunt (there is no way she just left town) and tried to kill Linden.
