This captures the same vibes as Little Women but I am not totally sold on the value of this retelling.

Everyone in the town is so adorable and nice, it's like an old timey version of a Mike Schur show or Schitt's Creek. Except that is so discordant with the super dark stuff about Micha being a traumatized sex worker and drug addict. I am just not sure what to make of it.

Am I supposed to be happy they hooked up? I just feel sad for Micha, he is way too traumatized for this. I just really hope he ends up in lavender marriage with Laura so they can both be safe and still love the people they want to be with.

Eames really drags out a finale for forever.

I tried. I can't. A third of the way through the book and nothing has happened. It's a short book, when is something going to happen?

Atmosphere is good but I find myself pretty bored

So far this has just been tragedy porn. Heavy on the tragic porn :( I've been considering DNFing but it does feel like the story may be shifting. The most interesting character has been Mrs. Clark so I am a little bummed she got left behind.

I think I am going to be as devastated as Rosemary and Logan when Joe dies.

I don't know if I am totally sold on Rosemary and Logan, but I think it might be that thing where I read the author's other work and the characters are too similar. Also, is Remy a saint? If someone ghosted me after 15 years together I would not be nearly that kind. The scene in the gallery with the painting might be my favorite part.

I always love a Steve West narration but this book may be a little too bleak for me. The emo pondering is very one note so I am hoping they change things up soon.

This is funny and cute and I love that both of these women care so much about their teacher that changed their life. I do need Rosemary to get more likable. I feel like she is getting stuck being the stick in the mud.

This is starting to drag a little. There are a lot of great mysteries lined up but I don't know that I love the dual timeline format.

I can't say I saw that coming. I like how this book plays with the perception of the different characters. There is a sort of push and pull to it. The silent companions are still objectively funny though.

The pacing on this is great. Thriller-mode immediately. I don't think Claire got Petra's number wrong, there is something more going on there. I also wonder if there is a connection between Eva and the Cook family, mainly because she is an orphan who only recently got info about her mother. The plot setup really works well.

Wow, that escalated quickly! One thing I appreciate about the nature of the silent companions is that they are a little camp. Like, there will be all this dread and then something messed up happens, there is all this blood, and you turn around and it's just a little wooden guy lurking. Hilarious.

Bummer. Rose is such an asshole.

Wilfred! I knew it. Nathan has really given the story a push (pun intended).

I usually hate the trope of the creepy little kid but I think this one actually works. Maybe because he actually seems like a kid? I thought maybe the baby girl might be possessed but now it seems like no? The husband is still surprisingly not shitty.

The vibes are good but the characters aren't landing for me so far. Her husband actually seems really nice which is kind of unexpected in this sort of story. The time period also isn't coming through as much as I would like.

I really hated that scene with Cura. I am really disappointed her story is going this direction. She has the coolest powers but definitely seems the most mishandled so far.

Wow, Joey sucks. Also, it does feel icky with her pursuing her 18 year old friend. Not just because she is mentally 32 but more because she knows pretty much everything about him and he doesn't know anything about her. If this was her jumping back like a year it would be a lot less weird.

Fable is honestly a real downer.

I feel like this is leaning into the rockstar stuff a little hard and that constantly getting wasted and fighting captive monsters is pretty sad. However, the character work remains strong so I am still really enjoying it.

This is fantastic. I literally spent the last chapter physically cringing at the body horror. Poppy is a tiny bit slower on the uptake than I'd like but only slightly. I really enjoy her as a character.

I thought it might be something like that but couldn't have imagined the extent of it. Super well told and pretty heartbreaking.

This improved a lot! I just wish it hadn't taken so long.

It's funny that I ended up reading two different books about hungry ghost month. I am loving this one so far. Mercy is like if Constantine was a 50 year old amnesiac Asian woman. I am here for her mysterious past!

I think the problem is that I find Cora boring. Cora knows she is boring. But that doesn't help. Everything else about this is interesting.

This woman's staggering generational wealth and the way she casually refers to it is so un-relatable. And I'm sorry but you are going to the country club in the summer of 2020?! Rich people really did not give a fuck about the pandemic. I really do want to feel bad for her because her husband seems like sociopath who targeted her for her money and connections but it's so hard.

Nobody deserves to be cheated on but this book is otherwise kind of hilarious. It's so out of touch it could almost be satire. She is like 'our marriage was perfect, there were no signs, even in retrospect' and then proceeds to describe a relationship that was 80% red flags.
