DNF. I have no intentions of finishing this series or this book. Save yourself the time by reading spoilers and then just watch the tv show. The racism is just too much. Like you can get down with vampires but only if they served in the War of Northern Aggression (yeah, that’s what they call it), but have to point out how having sex with a white person might make a black person feel like their equal…WTF.

Chapter two and the blatant racism, repetitiveness, and continuity errors are going to be the death of me.

Person to Person: 4 stars. Not bad, just a lot of hanging plots.

From Shadowed Places: 1 star. Whoop there it is! I could leave it as 1 star just for the first Black MC and first Black woman to get this line about her "And there most bizarre of all, sat - not Dr. Howell, an intelligent professor of anthropology, a cultured, civilized woman - but a near-naked African witch doctor with her implements of barbarous magic." The Funeral: 5 stars. This was extremely entertaining and gained a few chuckles from me.

Mad House - 3 stars. I read this one before, but hadn't realized it. Not very memorable - I think because of its length. Too much repetition.

Dress of White Silk: 4 stars. I can't give it 5 because I am confused by its purpose, but the writing is on point. If I were writing a paper on this though based on his other stories, I would not make a lot of readers happy. So 4 stars it is and I refuse to dive in analytically.

Dance of the Dead: I don't know how I feel about this one. I definitely feel disturbed, but that is also the point. My disturbance mainly comes from date rape and WWII torture though and I am not sure that was the intent. No star rating because I just don't know.

Witch War - 3 stars. A fantastical Lolita. If it had been written by anyone else, it wouldn't have disturbed me so much. The concept was there. But this particular author pointing out they weren't even sixteen yet and he can't stop describing their body parts and essentially having each girl orgasm a different way to kill zombies with magic? Yeah, no thanks. Not from you, buddy.

Prey - 5 stars. Makes me want to look into the origins of the Chuckie movie. Considering 4 stars because I have not confirmed if the author himself is racist via the stories. If race in a negative light (including only primitive perspectives) shows up again, it will be 4 stars for this one since it shows he still couldn't be trusted to write about anything dealing with race.

The Near Departed - 5 stars for wit

Buried Talents - 5 stars. Much better. But also only has men in it with the exception of a wife. And no one is named so no chance to be racist. Keeping in mind as I move forward.

Just finished I Am Legend. Not impressed. It is another fiction novel that of course white men can appreciate. Blatant racism (the only POC is also outside of vampire women the only person unnamed. Just "The Negro" even though it was a coworker of his). Rape fantasies (always wants to have sex with the comatose vampires, when he sees a live woman he notes he would "have violated her" earlier on). Themes: Prim Hum,Mad
