So much of this book echoes what I've been feeling/thinking about SBC and evangelical life...

Up till now, it's been history... but I'm into the section on the Christian defense of small government (and the disagreements with that defense). That means it's stuff I lived through - and, without realizing it, shaped the way I looked at and used Scripture.

I'm struck by how many times I've painted certain theological movements (and their view of the Bible) with a broad brush.

Interesting peek "behind the curtain" of Christian publishing - and thoughtful commentary on the novels in question.

Mark is on page 243 of 367 of All of the Marvels: A Journey to the Ends of the Biggest Story Ever Told
Basic takeaway - the Marvel comic book universe is a unholy mess... but a great place to tell stories.

Secondary takeaway - I know a lot of creators/artists due to my time collecting mostly DC Comics... otherwise, some of this would be pretty difficult sledding.

In general, I'm enjoying the book.

The book is excellent - but the level of science in here makes it slow going sometimes. (It's been a LONG time since I took a science class.)

Mark is 33% done with Fantasyland: How America Went Haywire: A 500-Year History
It's a wide-ranging historical overview of America "enthusiasms" and fanaticism. The author is not friendly to religion (particularly Christianity) but still is making some important points about how particular strains of theology affect the way we handle and/or mis-handle truth.

The author tells not only the story of Anders Breivik - but also of his victims. It makes for slow reading but is less sensational when you can't objectify the people involved.
