Status Updates From A Dark Matter

-Plot doesn't flow until you come to the 2nd portion
-Like how there are characters reading/writing books (feels like a reader looking into another reader's thoughts)
-Wasn't enthused after a few pages
-Plot was beginning to make sense and then began falling apart again

-Coming to the middle, felt like the author was just 'throwing things into the plot' to keep the story going

I keep thinking I've heard bits and pieces of this before, but I'd swear I haven't read it before. I wonder if it's been excerpted in a story collection.
