Solnit is meandering, sometimes it’s hard to follow where she leads. But I adore this chapter on conquerors, captives, and change, and that beautiful ending note on butterflies. “Violence of the metamorphosis” struck me. Change, as it is, is violent, not always the soft blooming of flowers.

The more I read this book, the more I feel this is an extension of my soul.

"Abandon" is my favorite so far, the author wonderfully delves into the mood and vibe and time of Marine, an old friend, and the times of punk rock and abandon and rebellion enacted in empty parking lots and hospitals.

The Blue Of Distance - crazy to think that back in the early 20th century a guy could just be on meth the whole time, sell a bunch of rich people absolutely nothing for real gold in the name of art, and wholeheartedly believe he could fly if he really tried, and that was considered ok! Alright !

Two Arrowheads - meandering in a way that isn't immediately apparent, and then becomes outright obtruse, form reflecting content, but as a reading experience is a bit tough to grasp the main idea (or the "protagonist of the essay"). Really resonate with her love and respect for vastness in nature - the world is vast and that's comforting.

"I wonder what will come of placing this generation under house arrest." hits different when it's 2021.

کمی بعد راهب دیگر او را برلی زیرپا گذاشتن عهدشان سرزنش میکند. دوستش پاسخ می دهد «تو چرا هنوز زن را به دوش میکشی؟ من که آن طرف رودخانه پایین گذاشتمتش.»

حکایت قدیمی بودائی از دو راهب است که قسم خورده بودند از زنان دوری کنند. روزی به رودخانه خروشانی می رسند. زنی از آن ها کمک میخواهد که از رودخانه رد شود. یکی از آن ها زن را بلند میکند و از رودخانه رد می شود.

Essay collections are difficult because it can be so hit and miss and that is what I am finding with this book. Some are incredibly powerful while others I can't wait to get through.

Do you ever start reading a book and immediately wonder why you didn't pick it up sooner? I loved the first two essays in this book. There are so many different types of loss.

دشوار است وقتی خودت آن را از صفر ساخته ای و نامش را خانه گذاشته ای، دشوار است تصور کنی که بخواهی از نو بسازی.

چیزهایی که به خاطر آوردنشان راحت تر از توصیفشان است…

اگر اندوه و زیبایی به هم گره خورده باشند ،پس شاید بلوغ حس زیبایی شناختی با خودش بیاورد که تا حدودی ما را از فقدان های ناشی از گذر زمان رها می کند و زیبایی را در دور دست ها می یابد.

عشق همان فضایی است که فاصله ی بین او و دوستش را پر می کند و به آن رنگ می بخشد،عجب آنکه آن دوست حتی وقتی پشت در ایستاده است چیزی دور می ماند؛ وقتی جلو می روی تا در آغوشش بگیری دست هایت دور چیزی تا شناخته حلقه می زنند ،دور امری ناشناختنی.

بیا به این فاصله عشق بورزیم ،فاصله ای که به تمام و کمال در تار و دود دوستی تنیده،چرا که آن ها که یکدیگر را دوست ندارند فاصله ای بینشان نیست.
از نظر سیمان و ِی ،عشق همان فضایی است که فاصله ی بین او و دوستش را پر می کند .

«گم شده» دو معنای نا همخوان دارد . گم کردن یعنی ناپدید شدن چیزی آشنا اما «گم شدن » یعنی پدیدار شدن چیزی نا آشنا :
