Two essays about change....of getting lost through captivity.

"Sometimes an old photograph, an old friend, an old letter will remind you that you are not who you once were, for the person who dwelt among them, valued this, chose that, wrote thus, no longer exists."

“Abandon”, as the title of the essay suggests, is a bit depressing, but a good read for sure. You can’t really be too literal when interpreting any of these essays, and this one is no exception.

This second Blue of Distance was just okay. Could have been several pages shorter and been just as effective.

Chapter two favourite quote:
“The world is blue at its edges and its depths. This blue is the light that got lost. [...] This light that does not touch us, does not travel the whole distance, the light that gets lost, gives us the beauty of the world, so much of which is in the color blue.”

“In the same way, teenagers imagine dying young because death is more imaginable than the person that all the decisions and burdens of adulthood may make of you.”

Speaks to my soul. I’ve always felt the pull of getting lost in nature.

Done with the second essay, moving on to the second Blue of Distance. Very good food for thought.

Partway though the essay “Daisy Chains”. Not as good as the first essay, which had a much more defined purpose and central idea so far.

Chapter 1 is read, favourite quote: “It’s not about being lost but about trying to lose yourself.”

I love this so far, it's so nice to dip in and out of.

In recalling memories, we change them, inadvertently destroying the past.

It's so good. So good. I'm really glad Rosianna picked this for Life's Library. Can't wait to see what the rest of the book is like.

this is something i never would have picked up if it wasn't for life's library. due to the fact that these are essays instead of a coherent story, it's taking me a while to get through it, but i really like it so far!

Not as hard to read as I thought it would be from what other book club members were talking about.

First chapter done....an essay on getting lost and the potentialities of what that means. A bit meta, but interesting.

This is so highly rated, but I can’t get into it. It must get better, right??

Gonna savor this an essay at a time.
