A whole book about a cook's emotions being ingredients in food. "The special ingredient is love." turned into a novel. Alrighty then.

This is either the most depressing book I have ever read, or I don't get it AT ALL. I'm not sure what the emotional food and furniture are supposed to signify as motifs, but I am guessing they are written as fact but meant to be allegories. I feel like I am not smart enough to understand this book, and that is absolutely ok with me.

Not sure why I am reading this. The title grabbed my attention, but thus far there is a deep melancholy in the story. The sadness of sameness and unfulfilled potential reverberates in every paragraph.
I cannot really empathise, because having struggled in life, one learns to appreciate whatever one has—even if it isn't exactly what one wants.

So far loving her power to feel emotions from foods and tell the location of each ingredient and the mood of the cook.

Magical Realism জনরার কথা শুনেছি যে এন্ডিং সেন্স মেক করেনা। এত কষ্ট করে পড়ার পর তেমন হলে আমার পুরো মাসের বই পড়ার মুড নষ্ট হয়ে যাবে।

Trying 'Magical Realism' for the first time.
Writing style is bothersome but I guess I will be able to finish it.

Well. That was a big, convoluted metaphor trying awkwardly and sadly to somehow shape empathy for day to day living in a neurological atypical space. I think. It was a sad sort of story: everyone was disconnected emotionally and it was pathetic to see these mostly unfulfilling lives. And yet it was compelling to read.

Our narrator is 9 years old, or maybe an adult who is talking hyper-detailed about her childhood. But then we get lines like this: "Find a Wife hadn't been on any visible list, but [Dad] had proposed earlier than most of his peers and something did seem to get checked off inside him once they were married." -- how would a child know this about their parent?! Maybe the author should have gone with 3rd person narrator.

100 pages in and no mention of Rose experiencing the suffering of the animals she's eating. She can tell whether dairy products are made by cows in pens or cows with more freedom... A huge part of her experience with food should be the feelings of animals. I cannot believe this massive omission...

There was a whole lot to consider and some things need to be considered slowly.
