I loved this book. Sometimes I shake my head with wonder at how an author comes up with the ideas for their stories, and this is one of those times. So imaginative, and so well-written.

The whole family seems messed up in a weird way...

Second time I've made it to this point & stalled.

I feel like I've read this before (Like Water for Chocolate) but that was better... Early days though.

As I'm reading this book, I wonder what the plot is. As I read the back cover, I deduce that this is potentially going to be a depressing read. And ain't nobody in this house got time for that.

A perfectly light read for lazy beach days.

The story gets darker and sadder. I am on pins and needles to know where Joseph disappears to.

We are baking a cake with Mother. The writing in this book is not flowing very well, after the last two books I've read. Will give it a little more time. ;)

The family in the novel has so many quirks and so much sadness.

I feel like this book maybe be similar to those by Sarah Addison Allen- my favorite author. So I am excited to continue reading it.

I like the story, but am really nit enjoying the non use of quotation marks in the dialog. I may just be odd.

this interaction was touching. beautiful daughter and mother moment. i can't help but feel for the mother in respect to her own mother. personally impacting

disappointed perhaps by how it isn't what i thought it'd be, pleasantly fascinated by what it turned out to be.

so, the internet lies. this book is not like 'pushing daisies' in that it's not adorably humorous and quirky. it's tragic and profound. i still like it, but i hate being lied too.

deliberate and bittersweet thus far

Such a dark surreal story to be inside such a childlike lighthearted cover. Im actually quite enjoying this despite the no quotation marks.

Really enjoying the story... But I truly hate that the author omitted quotation marks to show dialogue. Like... Who does that? Pet peeve fasho! You want quotation marks? You won't find them here.

I didn't see the character of the brother as becoming as significant as he turned out. It seemed earlier as if he had only been there out of contrast, with the main drama having to do with Rose's unwanted talent and with the mother, but the story's taken a turn.
