The word for the day is....Quirky. From the story it's telling to the way it's written. My jury's out, but I haven't put it down yet - so something's obviously working

I'm slightly annoyed that they're completely switching POV halfway through the book. Some books can do that. This one can't.

On other notes: The mom is so believable and relatable that I found myself getting irritated at my mom just by reading this.

I received this book as a gift quite a while ago, and I'm just starting it tonight. I am very intrigued after reading the wildly conflicting reviews of it... Hmmm.

First Impressions: Excellent concept, but unfortunately the narrator is terrible. Soooo I have to make sure I am paying attention. Still, you can tell the book is well done.

Yes, I am once again reading this book. Its a book that makes my heart flutter just thinking about it.

no tak to snad jako nemyslí paní spisovatelka nemyslí vážně. Rose v jídle vnímá to, co cítí člověk, který to jídlo připraví. OK! ale jestli to chápu dobře a Joseph se mění v židli... no, tak jako... :D vážně?

mám problém se k téhle knížce dokopat, ale když začnu číst, tak se mi zase nechce přestat :D je to vážně zajímavé a hrozně dobře se to čte :-)

I enjoyed the writing. I find the story somewhat compelling. However, I found it lacked depth, in character and plot. There is truth in not truly knowing your parents, or your children. If that was the author's point, then she wrote accordingly. Older brother is an enigma, so much so that he becomes an inanimate object? meh. A good read. And underwhelming at the same time.

Rose described the food as having 'feelings.' Others think she's just a picky eater, or she doesn't want to eat. Rose is just nine years old and is so confused that such an unusual thing is happening to her. Because her mother and father have been arguing a bit, her mother has been unknowingly baking her feelings into the food she makes. Rose, having special taste buds, can taste everything she's feeling.

Rose is trying to figure out why foods taste differently to her. She gets her big brother's friend to run some 'tests.' Some food tastes hollow, empty, sad. However, some have good or normal tastes to them. Rose still doesn't know why.

Steaming through this novel... there's a little unsolved puzzle developing I would like an answer to, but either way the language is beautiful company enough.

Starting to think this book isn't about plot as much as it is the people and their obscurities... which is very fine with me. I look forward to more (despite very mixed reviews).

I have liked the book so far. The main character, Rose, is telling the story as if she was a little girl again. She's telling the readers about how her daily routine of life was.

Not one I would recommend

A book that resonates with the grown up who used to be a child who knew things she wasn't supposed to know, and who couldn't explain how she knew what she knew. It resonates such that I feel the bodily tension of it.

What does Aimee Bender have against quotation marks? It's very difficult to tell what's being said and what isn't.
