I have been slacking on my reading but we're getting there. Hopefully I get to finish this soon because it's been a really interesting read and to see the influence of the Caribbean in the city of Toronto

Still reading this for school, but I am so glad I have the chance to read this. It is very far from what I usually chose to read and it's just been so fun so far. It is a wonderful representation of Caribbean culture in the city of Toronto. Although, as I am not far into the book, I haven't seen any major plot lines or problems aside from the fact that Toronto is falling apart and one guy is trying to leave the city.

I already thought that Rudy is the worst, but Chapter 8 definitely seals that deal.

So far, this book is doing a good job of creating tension and ratcheting it up higher and higher.

In her head, she kept going over the litany of Tony's faults: he drank too much, he was lazy, he ran drugs for Rudy. But his smile made her feel like she was flying.

Personally I would have added to the list of his shortcomings the multiple attempted homicides he just confessed to, but hey - so long as his smile makes you fly 👌

I’m absolutely loving this! (Even if reading about a dystopian Toronto is a bit much given *gestures wildly at everything*).

I forgot how much I liked this one.

Enjoying it very much, but also aware of it being Hopkinson’s first novel. There are moments in which it feels like she needs to over-explain things. Glad to be in her capable, imaginative, vivacious hands.

I really find her writing just carries me along no matter what the story is.
