Status Updates From Brown Girl in the Ring

I am so dragging my feet on this - I’m tempted to DNF.

This book may only be 271 pages on ebook but it’s taken FOREVER for us to get anywhere in the damn story.

Good stuff

Returned it to the library 🙄 Wanted to like this! But the writing had a YA vibe I couldn't shake. Started Walking the Clouds which has an excerpt from Midnight Robber, so looking forward to that.

Trying desperately to save the day

Theme- Will to Survive. I believe this because the setting isn't a civilized society anymore, it's everyone for themselves through the different talents

Rereading as I teach this Afrofuturist classic to my students :)

God this is so good

Ti-Jeanne- "could see with more than sight. Sometimes she saw how people were going to die."(Hopkinson 9)

i audibly gasped!!!

For a few pages, this turned into a convincing horror novel.

You NEED to go on somewhere. 🙄

TJ is a Slytherin.

Choosing the value of one human life versus another human life should NEVER be allowed. No matter how little you value someone, the people who depend on them won’t agree with you, and vice versa. It’s unethical and cruel.

The strange procession filed down the stairs and out into the night.

A mess!

Y’all are too trusting for me.

Wild.

Mmhmm. 💅🏽 Now, let’s get to, let’s get to.

T is the problem, gotta go! I feel like they’ll cause more trouble than they’ll put right.

The book is deep!

Of course there was more to that story. What is K’s deal?

Mmhmm.

Foolishness!

The audacity.

Biiiiig yiiiiikes!

Secrecy was survival, oui?

That was horrifying.

Yikes! This world is fascinating, the writing is too-tier, and the world building is A1! Everything feels real, despite the mysticism and magic at work!

The world is cruel. The world is wicked. It is I alone whom you can trust in this whole city. I am your only friend.
