This is legitimately why influencers- ESPECIALLY women giving advice about babies and child-rearing- need to stay in their damn lanes and stop assuming that just because they popped a kid out that it makes them an expert in all things child-related.

They're not. Your average mommy bloggers/influencers are not qualified to give advice involving child safety or health. Why people take them seriously irl baffles me.

You know, when Emmy said at the beginning of the book that mothers get "judged" for so much, so she likes the validate them...

...I was actually going to do a rant about co-sleeping for this exact reason. There's "judgment" and then there's "legitimate concern about yours and your child's safety".

But then, we've already got a good record going of what Emmy classifies as "judgmental", don't we?

So, if y'all want a tl;dr about why I'm so critical of feminism, especially the earthy-crunchy types, just flip open the book to this page and read Sara's little speech about how periods are "a woman's gift from the universe" and how her "womb is a garden".

Emmy calls it "utter rubbish" and this might be the first time in the book I unequivocally agree with her.

I hate- I really, really hate- that I can picture actual mommy bloggers/influencers doing that sort of shit on their kid's birthdays.

This book is dragging. I want to know what happens but every time something exciting does it’s wrapped up in like 5 pages and it gets so boring again.

A lot of it so far has been background on an influencers life but the stalker’s pages are getting longer so it’s getting more intense

So that's what Emmy classifies as "judgmental": i.e. "anyone who tells you someone you don't want to hear, even when it's something you really SHOULD be hearing".

Or, Emmy, mothers are judged because like assholes, everyone has opinions.

I mean, welcome to the world: Everyone faces judgment over some things in their lives. And since the health and welfare of a child is a high-stakes game, lots of people have strong opinions about it.

Just how it is.

Because your daughter's individual interests aren't good enough for your Modern Feminist Mother audience, so I guess we'll just pretend they don't exist because God forbid your daughter be her own person.

That's a great message to send your daughter: Tailor you interests to fit others' sensitivities.

I say, without an ounce of sarcasm, that this is absolutely feminist of Emmy and those other mothers.

"Obviously the modern mama party line is that pink stinks. They're all meant to be little rebel girls and little feminists in training, but my daughter is firmly in the fairy-queen camp."

I love how this sums up the problem so well: Namely, that instead of asserting her daughter's right to be as enthusiastic about pink and princesses as she wants, Emmy bows to public pressures to appease feminist sensibilities.

Finally got to reading for a proper amount of time and it feels like breathing again.

So far super interesting to see the behind the scenes of a family influencer. I wonder if all of them are like this

I keep skipping over parts - some of this seems pointless to the story.

Listening to the audiobook. So far I am intrigued.
