Wanted to love it, just a little too slow for me. I liked learning about Cyprus though. Made me curious to learn more

Omg why did it take me this long to connect the well and the owners when it literally said it at the beginning 😞 hope Defne doesn’t have anything to do how they got there cause what does the tree mean maybe it wouldn’t have been consumed by flames if they hadn’t met…

A fig tree narrates portions of this story. A forbidden love. Geoethnic conflict. Family History. Surprisingly good. I will probably cry.

For now I am really enjoying this book. Shafak writes beautifully and her themes and character exploration are so very unique. The story lines are very interesting and keep me hooked while also teaching me some history.

I find myself again reading a sad historical fiction. Magical realism AND ecology in this one though which is a treat
