Kind of sick of the author’s writing style. Tries too hard to appeal to a murder/podcast audience, in my opinion, which makes the language sound trivial.

“και ‘σύ, τέκνον” is lowkey a lot more pathetic than “‘et tu, brute”

This actually made me feel bad for Julius Caesar. Why brute, why?
Apparently he said "you too, my child" in Greek but Shakespeare didn't believe his people could read Greek so he changed it to the famed line in Latin "Et tu, Brute?"
Damn Brutus way to go. Kill ur friend why don't you. Hope you enjoyed yourself.
IMO Caeser was so funny and a hard worker ok. He did his own paperwork. And he was a tyrant ok so what

My man Tiberius didn't deserve that he was just tryna be a good man and give the people some land so they could slay and become equal.
Oof when you read what happened to him it makes Julius Caesar look pale in comparison.
R.I.P Tiberius you would've been such a slay for the working people and the roman slaves 🙏.

This is actually so funny and juicy. Like it's about the Romans and their habitual murdering of each other but it's peak.
Like rome literally starts off with two twin brothers wanting to name the city after themselves. Romulus and Remus. So they are like "hey bro we'll leave it to the gods. Whoever has the most vultures flying over their head wins"
That's how the book starts and it is HILARIOUS. No spoilers....

Murder was the number 2 sport in Rome. The first one? Horse racing.

Shout out to the ancient Livias committing crimes because they were tired of it all

So far, the first section on political murders has been my favorite, but im really enjoying this! It does a pretty good job of giving context, because I know very little about ancient Rome and I'm still able to follow whats happening.

I love it when historians call Tacitus “the queen of throwing shade” and Nero “a little dick”

I wish the author would stop saying “I know all this is boring, but bear with me” when she’s explaining history that I actually find interesting 🙃

The language is too boorish to keep me interested. The book reads more like "here are some gory murders. Here are the facts."
I believe the point that the author is trying to make is that the definition of homicide and murder have changed over the course of history.
Better to spend time reading more interesting works satisfy my curiosity rather than slog along with uninspiring prose.
