Though heavy with archaeological information and summaries of ancient civilisations, there is enough about magic to keep you fascinated. Who knew the extent of magical practices!?

long, kind of reads like a history textbook, but if you're into this kind of stuff, it's fascinating. soooo much information, love it, a little half way through, entering the iron age i believe

Now this is starting to get relevant as research for my novel. Medieval magic!

A history of the relationship between magic, science and religion. A tad too broad so we are full speed ahead through various epochs of human “history” without much reflection.

Less dry, but feels extremely broad. Already learning new things. First chapter being 10% of the book was surprising!

This is not written in an engaging fashion. The author obviously knows his stuff, not surprising given his background, but the narration is dry and repetitive.

Skimmed this one so far -first and last chapters and dipping into others. Interesting way of thinking about magic and full of information about magical belief systems around the world and across history.
A bit too much for me to read in its entirety at the moment, but I may revisit!
