Starting off well. References to established mindfulness practices and IFS increase my confidence in the validity of some of the more far-out premises (1, 3, and 7 are magic numbers that define the universe!). Interesting idea that your personality is built to compensate for childhood wounds and awareness is about letting go of personality altogether 🤔

- Chương đầu tiên của sách giới thiệu khái quát và tóm gọn về 9 loại tính cách trong hệ thống enneagram đồng thời nêu lên quan điểm "Phải hiểu bản thân mình đầu tiên, phải thần thật với bản thân"
- Ngoài ra còn có một bài đánh giá thử về bản thân thuộc loại tính cách nào. Kết quả tôi là người loại 2 người trợ giúp những tôi lại nghĩ mình thuộc kiểu 1, 3 hoặc 7.
Tiếp tục khám phá bản thân.

Đọc Freud chán quá nên nhảy cái vèo qua quyển này. Lần đầu tiên đọc một quyển non fiction mà hào hứng với thích thú như thế. Tuy nhiên vì vẫn đang đọc mấy chương đầu, nên thấy tác giả "quảng cáo" về Enneagram hơi nhiều nhể :/

This already feels like Essential Reading for everyone

Amazing book with clear insights into how our childhoods shape our personality. I got really clear of my own number, and use this book when dealing with others, seeing them in a whole new perspective and allowing me to approach each relationship individually from the type's perspective.

If you have a job that has anything to do with dealing with clients directly, read this book!

It's an absolutely amazing eye-opener. Would remcommend to anyone and everyone desiring to gather perspectives on others themselves and others.

Slow to digest but great as a resource!

It is thus not what we do that makes the difference, but the quality of awareness that we bring to the moment.

[3 criteria for choosing a spiritual practice]
1 does the practice assist us to become more mindful, awake and open to our lives
2 does it support us in exploring some of the uncomfortable aspects and limitations of our personality
3 does the path encourage us to think for ourselves

No one in life is truly self-sufficient. Everyone, including Eights, needs others to help them and support them and accomplish common goals. If Eights were to examine their lives objectively, they would see that, in fact, they are actually dependent on many people to fulfill their vision and accomplish their goals.

The amazing thing, however, is that when we are present, all of our experiences are extraordinary.

Faith is not belief, but a real, immediate knowing that comes from experience. Faith without experience is belief. Faith with experience brings reliable guidance.

Remember, inner knowing usually does not speak using words.

The Four's special Essential quality is the embodiment of the personal element of the Divine. That which is eternal in us experiences the world through our personal experience. A fundamental aspect of our souls is impressionability - the ability to be touched and to grow from experience. When we are open and present, our hearts are affected and transformed by our experiences.

If we examine the function of judgment in personality, we see that it serves to reinforce our sense of self by separating us from that which we are judging...the Essential self exercises discernment, notes differences, and makes decisions about what to do; by contrast, ego-based judgment always carries a certain negative emotional charge. Its primary function is not to discern but to create distance (or a boundary)

Awareness is vitally important in the work of transformation because the habits of our personality let go most completely when we see them as they are occurring. Analyzing past behavior is helpful, but it is not as powerful as observing ourselves as we are in the present moment.

So far ... very good.

I was super into this book and how accurate and helpful it was, but when I got into a seemingly magical relationship in the midst of going through and processing the content that is applicable to myself, I stopped reading thinking I was good. I was wrong on both counts, and now I need to dive back in and really listen to what I need to do to improve myself.

This is really complicated!

I am enjoying reading about the 9 personality types.
I find the book insightful and have enjoyed taking some of the initial test to identify what type and subtypes I fall under.
