There’s something about reading Dr. Meera going heavily into the catastrophe that the loss of Roe v Wade would bring…after the loss of Roe v Wade.

There are so many reasons, so many things that influence the decision. No reason os "better" or "worse". its a personal choice. Telling stories opens discourse. seems like a good time

I started this earlier this week without realizing the new significance it would take on here in the US. 😒 It was definitely harder to read it today knowing that things are about to get much, much worse.

Loving this book, its purpose, and the stories these women have decided to share in order to open up conversations.

So many quotable lines already, so here's my favorite so far: "Opening up about a personal experience, let alone a controversial one, is scary. But with risk comes reward. Stories have power. They can break down stigmas and help us to empathize with those whose experiences are unlike our own. They can also help us find community, a shared sense of camaraderie over experiences just like ours."

I’m annotating as I’m reading so that’s why I’ve been reading this for a while. But it’s so good! It’s educational without being too graphic- I feel it should be apart of everyone’s bookshelves regardless of where you stand on abortion.

Started today. Felt appropriate as I birthed a baby for someone else today, and with the state of our country. Already feels like a must read.

So far, while I completely agree with most of her points in the intro, I do NOT agree that anyone other than women should be the focal point of an important dialogue on abortion. Why extend the convo to trans men? They can’t get pregnant. It’s a medical fact. Being a medical professional means to discount any lie claiming truth; same as critiquing the political right’s intentional spreading of misinformation.

Minor correction- Dr. Gompert's lawsuit against the FDA was filed in Idaho, not Iowa... I think I remember reading about the effect on telemedicine.

Already cried a little bit reading through the introduction because Dr. Shah gets it- telling our stories is powerful, but at the same time we shouldn't have to, especially when it makes us a potential target for anti-abortion people. And yet, we're the voice missing from the discussion most often.
I have confidence this book centers us, the decision makers & honors that choice.
