The math ain't mathin' too well, some continuity issues, etc. There are no typos, but this book needed an editor for those things. I do think Stone did a good job writing the fucked up logic and view of a predatory man. The justifications and contradictions were so infuriating and yet is exactly how some people think.

"The temperature had to be hovering near zero". I don't understand why this sentence is here. She may not remember everything her dad taught her immediately, but she certainly knows enough and is smart enough to know it's gotta be colder than that. Also, I don't understand why the chapters are so short. They're not changing pov nor skipping ahead in time. They seem pointless.

DNF. I looked ahead and found the story gratuitously bleak. Sociopaths, anarchists, corrupt civil leaders. The dog was a respite. The female protagonist can’t win in spite of having been a kidnap victim. That’s when I stopped.

I’m not sure I’m gonna finish this one. It looks like bleak on bleak on bleak. I don’t find political corruption entertaining these days nor anarchy.

Hmm. A real downer. And as I look ahead, volumes of downer. I don’t think I’ll finish it. I should’ve look ahead: sadism, corruption, anarchy, violence, distrust.

This is generally well written from a plot, characters, and development standpoint, but the incomplete sentences really started to gnaw at my grammar correction tendency. Commas and semicolons would have been more effective than periods and incomplete sentences. The art of developing compound sentences and complete paragraphs is sometimes ignored by some authors.

I am reading this for the second time. I appreciate the lack of foul language in the book. Incomplete sentences could be edited to make smoother reading.

Making the decision to DNF despite being an excellent suspense tale so far. Almost all reviewers say this series goes far too long, is repetitive, and the resolution is diminished by the unnecessary and simply exhausting military twists and turns (not my type of conflict either). I don’t wanna commit any more time.

I like the book so far, but I wish we would see more of Pike. I'm interested to see how the relationship between Hannah and Liam plays out.

Is Liam was military, why did he not get all sneaky and try to kill Pike at the old lady's house? He knows they're being followed, and there's snow everywhere making it damned easy to track them.

This was an interesting read. It was recommended to me by Amazon and I could get it for free through kindle unlimited so I figured why not. It was a little slow going at times but I really did enjoy it. It was kinda nice to see from all of the characters POV’s and not just the main girl. I’m looking forward to the 2nd one!
