…into science fiction. He goes to great lengths explaining the logic and caveats of traveling to the moon, even at the expense of an active, character-driven plot. This was probably to great effect when the book came out, but I could see modern audiences growing tired of the explanations.

pg. 45 - America has “selonomania” or has gone “moon-mad.” Verne has predicted the effects that the space race would have on American culture a hundred years before its oncoming. In the 1960s, the U.S.’s real push for lunar domination caused a slew of space-related products to dominate pop culture. “Star Trek”, and the later “Star Wars comes to mind.
