The Wing reminds me of Six of Crows, but better

I really like this so far. Strong but realistic heroine. Nice worldbuilding,though bit of an infodump. Shadowhawke sounds a bit dull to me, but we'll have to see how he turns out.

i like the complicated and frustrating politics happening behind the scenes, feels so real

i was sceptical but i will say the sports game as culmination of the unit's training was pretty satisfying to read

i do have to give credit where it's due: the characters who keep professing they care and want to help the poor? actually go out and do that in a crisis. characters who claim to be good at fighting? are actually that when it comes to an action scene. i worried this would be all tell no show but it actually does quite a lot of showing

somehow this book's focus became ... a sports game ... and i don't appreciate it

could it be that talyn's beginning to see through her family's utopia? i hope that's the storyline at least bc there's nothing more boring than "the dumnorix are perfect our country is perfect and this other country sucks in every way compared to our perfection"
