Status Updates From Handling the Undead

I liked it so far...

So far so good

Ugh.

So far, my biggest issue with this novel is that it's been all tell and no show. For fuck's sake, it can't just be the translation to English because there's even "Overview" sections popping up that provide a timeline of events that occur during the different narratives. Maybe this whole book is supposed to be satirical and I'm just not getting it, but it seems to me that the damn thing is mostly lazily written.

I'm on a roll after Console Wars. Hope I can keep it up for Let The Right One In 2nd Readthrough and Let The Old Dreams Die!

Not a huge fan so far...

This is my second readthrough of this book and its on my new hardcover copy. The first was on iBooks on iPad 1. This book is 363 pages long.

00:22: The Minister of Health and Social Affairs arrives at the department. Under his supervision, a provisional command unit is formed consisting of representatives of various departments and the police, as well as eminent physicians from a number of disciplines. A conference room at the department has been set up as a temporary command centre. It will quickly come to be known as the Dead Room.

After the initial burst of chaos waned, the doctors had become extremely interested in the fact that Eva could talk. Apparently she was one of the few who could. Perhaps it was due to the fact that she died so close to the awakening, perhaps it was something else. No one knew.

Hän kolautti nyrkkinsä ja räpytteli kirveleviä kyyneliä silmistään. Hän iski kanisteria uudelleen. Peter ei kysynyt miksi.

"How is she?" David asked. The doctor looked at him with a half-open mouth as if he had just asked a question so stupid there was no answer. "The heart isn't beating," the doctor said. "There. Are. No beats." David felt a pain in his chest. "But don't you have to..." he said, "aren't you going...get it going?" The doctor looked at Eva pulling on the rubber tubing and said, "She doesn't seem to...require it."

The blanket slid off her, there was a quiet clinking and ... no, he had not realised the full extent of it all. Her upper body was naked, the clothes had been cut away. The right side of her chest was a gaping hole bordered by ragged skin and clotted blood. From it came a metallic clanking. For a moment, David could not see Eva, he only saw a monster and wanted to run away.

"Missä sinä olet, rakas poikani? Oletko siellä? Vai... täällä?" Muutaman minuutin kuluttua hän tunsi kykenevänsä taas toimiin. Hän laahautui pystyyn, pääsi autoon, käynnisti ja ajoi sairaalan parkkipaikalta kohti Råckstaa. Kädet tärisivät uupumuksesta. Tai odotuksesta.

In the bathroom she removed her dentures, brushed them thoroughly and put them in a glass that she kept in the bathroom. Did not understand people who kept them next to the bed like a grinning reminder of time passing. Glasses, yes. The security of having one's eyesight close at hand if anything should happen, but the teeth? As if something you had to chew was suddenly going to appear.

I started this book too close to the due date, so back to the library it goes. I'll see if one of the other branches has a copy.

This book has become shockingly hard to read. The dead, or "reliving", often show symptoms of dementia. They are trapped in the past, but fully unaware of their current deteriorated state. As far as they know, all is fine. It's as if they never died. It is their loved ones who have have deal with the reality. I have a family member with dementia. This book hits close to home just a little too much.

Va muy lenta para mi gusto, pero tengo curiosidad y tiempo así que llegare hasta el final.

Still good

At this point I am very much enjoying this stor. So far it is more about losing someone you love than a horror story, though.

This is not grabbing me yet... still plugging away, but, jeez. Where's the quality of LTROI? It's like this book is by a completely different author! :(

Hmm... Not really feeling this one. Not NEARLY as good as Let The Right One In. I'll keep with it and see if it picks up.

Dying to finish it ,as it turns out that the reliving are not completely passive and without defense. But life's getting in the way...

I find myself "stealing" time to read this (a little before bed, "just one chapter" before I get out of bed in the morning,etc.
