very very well handled so far - almost clinical examination of the ‘zombie’ myth type without the need to go full ham.

So... none of this is okay. I am concerned about where this is going. It would make a great movie.

For the Read Harder Challenge- Genre fiction in translation.
This is a horror(?) novel by the same author as Let the Right One In, which was awesome and terrifying and made into a beautiful film. This book is kind of gross but so far not terrifying.

i don’t know what i have against the name flora but gee do i hate that name?? anyway. this one is a much quicker and easier read than LTROI but also a less compelling one. (although mahler’s parts are 😟☹️)

I think this book is very weird and it just gets so much weirder. I still like the way the authour writes but I liked the beginning a little more, but mostly because I liked the characters a lot and im not so into zombies

I find a lot of parts of the translation really bad, and cringey. Might be because I'm a native Swedish speaker and the book is translated from Swedish to English. But I love the story so far, I enjoy the characters and the way everything is built up... it's just lovely

No pun intended-- this is killing me. In the best way. Devastating even more than a year after my own loss.

yessss haitian folklore mentioned! i think it's very much ok to rewrite monsters and the way they work & not adhere to the original canon but it makes me happy that the writer's done his research & wanted to include some of the origins of this whole zombie subgenre, give some credit where credit's due and so on

i'm liking this. very melancholic and gross

I know it's a translation, but it is SO well written. I was worried it wouldn't live up to "Let the Right One In" and so far my fears are entirely unfounded.

Very good book about the undead!
