Reading for school project

There are many excellent topics, I am struggling to remember them all

When your daughter reaches out from her new-ish job in California and says “Hey, Dad, we have to all read this book on leadership… do you want to read it with me and talk about it?” Then that is exactly what you do. Exactly.

Excited to begin.

It’s really good so far. I’m reading it very slowly because there is so much to process on each page. Sometimes I’ll take a whole week on a paragraph.

Eight things to do to look at problems through the lens of opportunity. 1) Recognize a potential problem before it becomes a real problem. 2) Get a clear picture of the problem. 3) Ask questions to help you solve problems. 4) Create a framework to examine problems and solutions. 5) Value shared problem solving. 6) Always come up with more than one solution. 7) Cultivate a bias for action.

“If small problems keep getting sent up to you, then you are creating a problem for yourself by not helping your people to be better problem solvers.”

“Problems introduce us to opportunities.”

“If you’ve done something for one year-look at it carefully. If you’ve done it for two years-look at it with suspicion. If you’ve done it for five years-stop looking at it and do something to change it.

Predetermine the change that is needed.
Lay out your steps.
Adjust your priorities.
Notify key people.
Allow time for acceptance.
Head into action.
Expect problems.
Always point to the successes.
Daily review your progress.

Exercises to do. Homework! This is a very interesting book so far and I desperately need all of the management help I can get. I think this is a good book to start with. We shall see!

Amazing book. Reading for the 4th time!

Interesting and easy read. The five levels of leadership mentioned are very applicable and relevant.

Chapter Four is absolutely brilliant. Implementing PLAN AHEAD immediately.

Just read the priorities section! If everything is a high priority, then nothing is a high priority and you won’t get anything done!

Wow, this book is DENSE and definitely making me think a lot. Really enjoying it and hope I can learn something from it. A lot of somethings actually.
