the book was far more fun the first time.

Finished the Paris section of the book.

I'd only planned to read a few chapters of this today, but Orwell's writing is so good I'm still going. His descriptions of his struggles with poverty are fascinating.

Some one gave me this book and I am enjoying it way more than I thought I would.

"All right. But what can we do? It seems to me that the only thing is to pawn our overcoats and get some food."

Three pages into his long-winded soliloquy on love, Charlie describes robbing his brother and using the money to purchase time with a sex slave. What. The. Fuck. Charlie. I don't think you know what you're talking about.

Read this in a cafe during my lunch break and was so absorbed that I didn't even notice the guy next to me who told me it was his favourite Orwell.

Surprisingly entertaining for non-fiction... It's Orwell, after all. :)

better than i expected. and i expect much from orwell.

He has finally left Paris and is finding it just as hard to live in London after the job he was promised is put on hold for a month!

Rashly threw away his cushy job to work in the restaurant from hell! I am getting really invested in this book now!

There were eccentric characters in the hotel....Poverty frees them from ordinary standards of behavior, just as money frees people from work....pg.7

It is curious how people take it for granted that they have a right to preach at you and pray over you as soon as your income falls below a certain level.

The thought of not being poor made me very patriotic...Then the boat drew alongside Tilbury pier. The first building we saw on the waterside was one of those huge hotels, all stucco and pinnacles, which stare from the English coast like idiots staring over an asylum wall.
