Parecía una niña, no se había dado cuenta de que él se había levantado, como si fueran una vieja pareja que había compartido cama durante años. Quería despertarla a besos, decirle que le diera una oportunidad, invitarla a que lo invadiera, se instalara en su casa, que ocupara hasta el último resquicio de su vida con su cariño irónico y mandón. Nunca había estado tan seguro de algo.

«Qué sacas con pensar en el futuro, las cosas siguen su curso y tú no tienes control de nada, relájate, hermano», era el consejo cien veces repetido de su amigo. Contar con una compañera, como Lucía había sugerido, ¿cómo sería? Cocinar para ella, esperarla por las tardes, andar con ella de la mano, dormir abrazados, contarle sus pensamientos, escribirle poemas… Alguien como Lucía. Era una mujer madura, sólida, inteligente, de risa fácil, sabia pq había sufrido, pero no se aferraba al sufrimiento, como él, y además, bonita. Pero era atrevida y mandona.

I'm trying to make myself finish this book. But it's had a jump the shark moment and I'm finding that moment is killing my interest in the book. Allende has two college professors getting involved with a woman with a dead body and now they are cooking up all these plans and schemes and I'm like "Call the police!"

yo no sé que pasa con esa mujer, pero sus libros me enganchan enseguida.

Quite a let down after reading such a masterpiece like The House of Spirits. The stories of the three protagonists are ok in itself, but lack connectivity to one another. And the style of the stories as 'so they tell each other their stories' are pretty boring. I mean, why can't she came up with something more interesting?

I just finished reading this in English translation and it was wonderful! Now it's time to go back to the original and see what I can do now that I know what's happening

The sections about the history of immigrant experience are much more compelling than the current day, and implausible story of trying to ditch a dead body in the back of a car. Given the current debates we are having about immigration this novel might have had something rich and meaningful to say about that experience. That hoped for voice is trivalized by the attempt to ditch a dead body.

hasta ahora, la tipica novela de Isabel Allende, en la q la protagonista es mas o menos ella. A ver si mejora.

This books reds sleazily It flows it mesmerises. Allende is as always magnificent in weaving her story.

I expect this to take me a little longer than is usual for a novel of it's length, since I don't have a lot of experience reading in Spanish.

I hate this book. I cannot finish it!!!
