Status Updates From De winter voorbij

Evokes a wintery scene but lots of description that I want to skip through. Hope to enjoy what appears to be a character-driven novel (rather than action).

I am enjoying the varying life stories of all the characters. We are given the past history on all the main players and the current situation on them as well. It all combines to give you a real awareness of the character and why they are who they are.

really loving the story progression so far. even tho this is so far from action packed high fantasies allendes writing is impeccable and beautiful

I have been a fan of Allende since The House of Spirits, and even though Midst of Winter is a modern leap for Allende, she stays true to her Chilean roots.

Het verhaal zit goed in elkaar en de metafoor van de winter wordt mooi uitgewerkt. Echt een goed boek, maar niet zo levendig geschreven en daarom moest ik soms moeite doen om verder te lezen.

We get to page 288 before the writer turns PC - what a joke. Do authors really think every book needs this?

Well written but found it depressing with so many bad things in the story line. From the snowstorm to murder to bad employers to broken marriages, it was not the summer book I needed.

VERY IMPORTANT UPDATE:

Richard finally called the vet, the cat is stable but needs to be kept for observation for the next few days (which strikes me as EXTREMELY convenient for plot purposes)

I get that things are spinning out of control but


someone please call the vet and make sure the cat is ok
