Status Updates From De winter voorbij

I love how there are 4 stories in this book that have all been beautifully intertwined. This is a great story.

Me encantan los tres protagonistas y como teniendo tan poco y tanto en comun se unen por una causa tan... inverosimil.

Amo que contextualice a todos los personajes. Les da profundidad.

So the story took a turn I didn't expect and has now developed a little more tension. I am loving the characters shared histories in latin America and how it's shaped them. Richard is probably the one I identify the most with right now, but generally the whole cast is rich in depth and character. Allende reminds me so much of Le Guin: whether it's fantasy or modern fiction I feel in safe hands.

This started out as just another cute meet-cute, lonely professor type story but it's quickly progressed into a history of poverty and fear in Guatemala and Chile. I mean, I shouldn't have expected anything less from Allende, right?

La realidad Latinoamérica está muy bien plasmada, es admirable el trabajo de la autora. Tengo un apego muy grande hacia los personajes porque los veo muy vulnerables :(.

Scrittura magistrale, è incredibile come Allende possa piano piano aggiungere tasselli alla storia e alla vita dei personaggi senza annoiare. Quasi mi sembra di conoscerli di persona.

Three great characters’ tales interwoven between present day Brooklyn & 70’s in Chile, Guatemala, Brazil. Beautifully written

Just okay

Written in an uninteresting way, I’m not reading any more. I was curious to read an Isabelle Allende book because I’ve heard her name, but this is not my kind of book.

After deciding to stash the body more respectfully, Richard and Lucia confess their feelings. They also help Evelyn flee to Miami to stay with Lucia's daughter until the body is discovered and her employer is implicated in not only the murder but human trafficking. He flees to Mexico and is killed at which time Evelyn wants to return and we discover it was actually the wife who committed the murder.

So this took a twist at about page 100-turns out there's a dead body in the trunk of Evelyn's employer's car! So now these three are on a road trip to dispose of the body. They are also continuing to tell each other their stories, including Lucia's loveless marriage, Evelyn's border crossing, and Richard's marriage back in Brazil.

Enjoying so far. Just got Evelyn's backstory about growing up in Guatemala and her brother's involvement with MS-13 and then his murder. Hope Richard's cat doesn't die, but with the three snowed in together for the weekend I'm interested to see where this ends up going.

Me encantan los breves momentos donde Richard acepta que tiene sentimientos por Lucia y lo maravillosa que es... <3

Pocas paginas he leído pero su historia me a ido introducción a ciertos acontecimientos que desconocía y eso me encanta

A little dry during the long narrative parts, but when there is dialogue between Lucia and Richard, I adore this book. Still have 2 hours and 9 minutes left to read but hope to finish it this weekend.

Not sure why Goodreads thinks this book only has 10 pages! I am halfway through and still not super excited about it, but want to find out what they do with the body in the trunk!

Just got through several chapters of background stories to get to the good part! Hope it continues to pick up from here!
