So far, this story is told in a nontraditional fashion (especially in regards to chronology). I am intrigued by the method and the characters, but I need to get used to the style.

So far, I'm enjoying Miller's writing style. Almost reminds me of Celeste Ng. Here's a short sample: "I'm trying to piece together the story of how there came to be a hundred miles of Long Island between us. I went away from Highbone one day at low tide, and I'm still waiting for the water to flood in and bring the world back to me."

It took a 100 pages before someone casually mentioned that it was 1980. Also, took 100 pages for me to realize it was Long Island; I thought it was some southern bayou with all the talk of water and boats and seemingly rural setting. Partly my ignorance, but also, actually setting the scene would help immensely.
