Is this literature yet? I mean what's better than having your introductory characters rape and murder.

If I were a casual reader, this would be the exact moment I would stop. But I'm essentially reading this for other people. Skip this one.

You know, it's very hard to keep reading a book with only one (almost two but he's gone currently) likeable character.

I mean...Joseph Conrad is really commonplace, you can't call it literature just because you took the pretty (now) common ideas from Heart of Darkness.

I just...I feel like I've read this story and watched its movie several times over. What am I missing? Profound statements? Unique description? I am missing the literature that everyone else is seeing.

Finally. Predictably finally.

So...when does this book get interesting? It just feels like any other book set in this time period.

This is going to be a long one.
