Status Updates From Only Killers and Thieves (B...

I just...I feel like I've read this story and watched its movie several times over. What am I missing? Profound statements? Unique description? I am missing the literature that everyone else is seeing.

Finally. Predictably finally.

So...when does this book get interesting? It just feels like any other book set in this time period.

This is going to be a long one.

this book makes me sad... just thinking how many lives erased around the world at the hands of white males... deaths due to fear and ignorance and hate... ugh.

this book makes me think of how much of so many things humans have wasted in their husbandry of cattle...

interesting how some authors can bring to mind a place one has never visited...

Noone and his posse head out after Joseph. Sullivan and the boys catch up later and Tommy realizes that Billy has a revolver by his side. It was given to him by Sullivan and Billy didn't tell Tommy.

The boys and Sullivan meet with Noone to talk terms with the hunt of Joseph. They decide that Tommy, Billy, Sullivan and his monkey, and Noone will participate in catching Joseph. This required a false testimony from both boys which Tommy was hesitant to do but Billy signed it right away. Tommy starts questioning Sullivan to Billy.

Tommy heads upstairs to go to bed but Mrs. Sullivan stops him and starts talking. She talks about how she met Mr. Sullivan which was that she was picked by him to bear him a son. She also teaches Tommy what a christmas tree is and gives him a lolly which she had dozens of.

The boys have dinner with Sullivan and his wife. Sullivan starts ranting about how the Kurrong dont know their place and how they've overstepped by killing the McBride family. Apparently Sullivan and Billy had already conferred and made a plan to go after Joseph and had already called Noone for help. Billy is hurt

The boys and Sullivan go back to the McBride family's house to bury their parents. The boys dig the graves and pick their parents up and lay them in. They get a proper funeral because Sullivan has an ex-priest on his land that he brought.

The boys begin to relax but when the "doctor" walks in they panic because he turns out to be just a veterinarian. Sullivan comes back to the boys and ask them to eat something however Billy wants to already set out after the man who he thinks killed his mother and father, Joseph. Sullivan says that if they want his help they will wait until tomorrow and they will get Noone to help them.

They check on Mary but she too has been shot however she is still breathing. They take her to the nearest medic which lives on Sullivans farm and they take Mary and the boys in to rest. They want to stay with her but Sullivan says no.

Arthur leaves the boys to return home while he goes back to his place. Tommy and Billy go to tend to the horses when they see that something is amiss. They check the side of the barn and see both of their dogs murdered so they run to the house. Once they get there they see their father and mother have been killed.

The family is sleeping when they hear a tapping sound and a few of them panic. The father realizes that its raining and everyone goes outside to celebrate. The rain continued for days and Arthur, Tommy, and Billy go to a watering hole to learn to swim and they end up talking about school in the town.

It is said that the mother and father have begun fighting and that Tommy has twice found his mother crying by herself. Arthur left to go live by himself for awhile. Sullivan sent a rider to the McBride family's farm to the father that says, "Im waiting Ned."

The girl Tommy is talking to mentions school and Tommy is curious of how it is. I feel this may foreshadow something later in the book. Father and Author had left apparently and now they have returned with a sheep and some money that they bought.

Tommy considers stealing a bag of flour but the clerk pulls a gun out and Tommy drops it. His mother goes to church and leaves the boys to themselves. Tommy sits in an alley when a girl comes up and starts talking to him.

They head into town where they see a few of the people that the mother once knew. She used to live in the town before she married the father. They go to buy some goods but are refused when the clerk says that they need to pay now and cant use credit.

The family doesn't really think much of the dead hanging people. They head home and after arriving Sullivan pulls up. They talk but it is not stated in the book what they talked about.

The father decides to check on the cattle to see what has happened so far. The boys have to use a sling to pick up the cattle off the ground. Once they finish they hear something and the father goes to see what it was. It turns out to be 2 hanging bodies with the word Noone carved into the wood next to it.

Sullivan confronts the boys about being on his property. He says to never come on his land again and to tell their father about what happen. The boys agree and ride home but they tell their father at dinner in front of the whole family and they get yelled at.

Two boys named Tommy and Billy are supposed to be searching for food but they come across Sullivan's Farm which was in way better condition than theirs and they wanted to see why. They go up and see 8 men riding on horses in a single file line. They do a few circles and stop and one man gets off.

It starts with a family going through a tornado like dust storm. They are okay for now but they realize everything is gone. After checking they see that there is no food for them or their cattle.
