Didn't read much today. Our main character (Nap Dumas) is learning that his friends, Augie and Ellie, have been keeping things from about the death of his brother--and Augie's daughter. Maura on the run . . . from what? Reeves (Agriculture worker at the Nike Missile Base) is looking like the villain, but there's more to be unveiled. Maura, for example.

Great plot. It's 15 years after the death of two teenagers in a "train" accident. Now, more teenagers from the high school have died. Our policeman, the twin of one of the dead boys, investigates. A top-secret Nike base was near the tracks. The dead kids were all part of a "Conspiracy Club." Did they see something they weren't supposed to see? Have they all been murdered? Are more murders to come?

This is why I love Coben. He knows how to grab you right from the start.

I thought, "I haven't listened to any Harlan Coben in a few years. I should start one up while I load the dishwasher." Then the first line in the book was this (said in a melodramatic male voice): "Daisy wore a clingy black dress with a neckline so deep, it could tutor philosophy." I stopped the recording and laughed and laughed. What on earth?! Coben, you're so weird.

This book has gone from goofy, to straight loony tunes. SPOILER: You're telling me you can go 10 years without seeing someone, then all of a sudden it's right where you picked up? C'mon now. This reads like an edgy YA novel that went too far so the editor changed the characters to be adults. No one talks like this in real life. Ever.

For some reason this book did not hold my interest. I guess its because I am getting tired of the plot in thrillers "when something bad or tragic happens in the past it haunts you" vibe. This applies in this book. Still I wanna see how this story will end...
Myron Bolitar made a short appearance on this book. I never read the Myron Bolitar series but its great character crossover. :)

Woah. Had me gripped from the first line.
The main character is in the first person, addressing his brother (spoiler: who is dead). Now, writing in the first character is very hard and many attempts have failed. But, Coben does it without huffing or puffing.
A gripping thriller, set in urban legends that transports you to the early 2000's and back.
I think I may start binge reading Coben, after now.

my first Harlan Coben read and I must say, so far I am not disappointed. I was drawn in fairly quickly and the storyline is keeping me intrigued!

First person narrative with a sarcastic protagonist who is a cop. I don't like being inside the head of someone who is not particularly appealing. It's too intimate to be inside someone boorish. I will persist for now as Coben has great ratings and the plot has appeal. Narration aggravates this dynamic.

Harlan Cohen is like comfort food for me. I always reach for his books when I fall into a reading rut and need something to get me back into the groove.

I'm reading this out loud to Carol when she drives, especially to see Steve most Saturdays. It is a good, suspenseful, well written mystery. We have read almost all of his other books.

If you want to slow down time, this theory holds: If you want to make the days last, do something different. Travel to exotic locales. Take a class.

I am a Coben fan and so far this book lives up to my love of his books. I am enjoying the story very much and can't wait to see where it goes and how things are connected, if they are!
