Status Updates From The Invisible Life of Ivan ...

Still not really drawn into the book. I don't really believe the narrators voice. It doesn't seem to actually fit the character.

I'm not sure if I'm going to like this book yet. I don't know if I'm too happy with how heavy handed it is in "this is an important story" narrative. I prefer when I get to decide when a story is important. I'm not quite sold yet, though I haven't gotten to the meat of the story yet.

Ivan & his comrades seem to be facing conflict in merely the way they were born, and the way they are treated by the nurses and the media, who cannot really understand what is happening in their heads. It's kind of insane how much I sympathize with Ivan, despite not having it nearly as bad as he does. It's a great story.

While this book seems to be more about Ivan's life in the hospital than the outside culture's world, it is interesting to see how the nurses act, and the culture inside the hospital differs from our own hospitals here. For example; I'm sure that no nurse in a similar hospital in the states would put up with Ivan's vulgarity or want for alcohol at the age of 17 at 5am.

The narrator divides the residents by their intelligence in a way that’s dehumanizing , and while I expect a 17-y-o to do this, it’s not okay. The book fails the test where I imagine it being about another disenfranchised minority group written by a person not in that group. This, in short, is why the world needs disabled authors to tell stories about disabled people.

When authors/editors go through the trouble of describing how a manuscript was found, came to be published, to insert foreign untranslatable slang into it and explain the translation process...it makes me REALLY disappointed as a reader when I find out this is a fictional novel.

Something about Ivan has me intrigued. I’m loving this book!

Ivan is watching Polina another patient at the hospital. He is confused to why she is always happy despite the loss of her parents and her chemo progress.

Ivan meets this new inpatient names Polina and she has cancer and will stay there and die a slow sad death

I learned about 3 new patients that came in hospital. It talked about why each one was there and there story behind why they were staying there.

What are the chances that both books I'm reading (or listening to) have Ivan and Ivo as the main character? And that is NOT where the similarities end...

This book is so well written that people on here in the reviews think its a true story. Guys look at the publication page. This is a work of fiction. Even the forward is fictional.

It's taking me a while to read because it is quite sad. The MC views himself as an incomplete person

I don't ever want this to end !! I love Ivan- this is hysterical in a sad way ... I don't look forward to the end , but hoping the author can put a nice spin on sadness . We will see .... Perfect vacation read !

This is not what I expected from this book, I'll finish it but hopefully the ending makes it worth it .

This book is a lot more graphic than I was prepared for .... hopefully it all works out for the best!

I have just read the first 45 pages of this book and I am really enjoying it. Ivan is incredibly sympathetic character, particularly for someone who is only 17.
